My commute vs Jaffa Cakes
Last weekend, I picked up a super-cheap cycling computer in Aldi for 20 Euros. I cycle to work, and I thought it’d be fun to get some geeky number-crunching in on my daily commute.
Here are the figures for my trip into work:
- Ride time: 12:16
- Trip distance: 2.4 miles
- Avg speed: 12.7 MPH
- Max speed: 22.4 MPH
- Total KCal work performed: 136
- Max pulse rate: 146
Given that there are 46 kilocalories in a Jaffa Cake, 136 KCal means that every day, I can eat 3 Jaffa Cakes with impunity. Result! ;)

I showed this to my girlfriend Justin, she said “that’s how girls think”. So there you go, you’re a girl! :)

Wonderful, I think that’s how all energy output should be rated. This meme has legs!

Love it. Though, I think I may need to cycle more to off set my jaffacake intake!

Don’t forget you go there AND back, so I reckon it’s 6 Jaffa cakes you can eat….

Are you riding to work on your bike? If the commute is done with a bus, auto or train wouldn’t the one actually doing the work get the cakes? If such a solution would impair operation, I’d be happy to sacrifice my body consuming those cakes.

Richard — yes, this is on a bike. It’d be a lot less extertion if it was by motorised transport ;)
