‘Our programs have left the desktop and found their new home on the web. System administration issues loom large.’ I agree with the thesis, but Puppet as a key component to fix this? it’s just cfengine in Ruby, snore

I would say it’s an incremental improvement over cfengine, see the discussion at http://reductivelabs.com/trac/puppet/wiki/CfengineVsPuppet
Either way, I don’t assert my argument rests entirely on it being Puppet, cfengine has made huge contributions in this area.

Agreed, it’s evolutionary-not-revolutionary, but unless you’ve used both to manage hundreds of systems, I’m not sure you get the full appreciation for how much nicer Puppet makes a large number of things.
