    One of the big barriers you have to overcome is the accuracy of reports of potholes, leaking pipes and other public works discrepancies. The councils use handheld GPS units tied to OSI maps that the engineers use. Google Maps and Ovi maps don’t translate directly. In my personal experience, potholes I’ve reported by my handheld maps are often pinpointed up to two lanes away from where they’re actually located.

    But as a citizen information initiative, reporting by app is a good idea.
