Ubuntu’s cron package silently ignores files
: Ubuntu have hack-patched Vixie Cron to silently ignore cron files which contain a “.”. omgwtf
(tags: omgwtfbbq broken ubuntu patching quality bugs software stupid packaging)
This is a rational (if underdocumented) decision. (See my comment on the blog post.)
It is documented. From the ubuntu manpages (Debian manpages also say the same…):
Files must conform to the same naming convention as used by run-
parts(8): they must consist solely of upper- and lower-case letters,
digits, underscores, and hyphens.
