Blogsplosion!

Social: It’s a blogsplosion! (neologism, Creative Commons license, cheers.)

First off, we have Old Rottenhat, a fantastic group-weblog featuring several old mates of mine, musing on music (Eoghan), psychogeography (Delaney), quitting work (Dr.), and random comments (Krossie). It’s great reading.

Next, Tom has finally set us up the blog in the form of Linux and Goblins, ‘your home for neither of the above’, with some trademark Tom-style moaning, half-baked ideas, and pestering of some politician git called Phillip Boucher-Hayes.

Both are now firmly ensconced in the sidebar, and on my daily list… an RSS feed for Old Rottenhat can be found here, and I’ll be making one for Tom too when I get the chance.

Creative Commons Ported to Irish Law

Law: Darius Whelan at UCC writes, ‘my colleague Louise Crowley and I are involved in drafting an Irish version of the Creative Commons licence‘.

If you’re interested in helping ‘port’ the Creative Commons licence to Irish law, it’s well worth a gander.

Wow

BBC to create the BBC Creative Archive. This is insanely cool. Danny O’Brien has written a fantastic overview, so read that for more details. But check out this quote:

I believe that we are about to move into a second phase of the digital revolution, a phase which will be more about public than private value; about free, not pay services; about inclusivity, not exclusion.

In particular, it will be about how public money can be combined with new digital technologies to transform everyone’s lives.

That’s BBC Director General Greg Dyke totally ‘getting it’. So cool.
